Achieving high vaccination coverage of priority groups should be the focus of national immunization programmes, using either the same vaccine for the different doses (homologous schedule) or different vaccines (heterologous schedules).

Interchangeability of vaccine platforms would allow for flexibility, for example in the face of constrained or unpredictable supply.

Depending on product availability, a person who received an inactivated vaccine can receive a vectored or mRNA vaccine for subsequent doses; a person who received vectored vaccines for initial doses may receive mRNA vaccines for subsequent doses; and a person who received an mRNA vaccine for initial doses may receive vectored vaccines for subsequent doses.
