Vaccination against COVID-19 lowers the risk of serious illness or death from any known variant of the virus. WHO recommends a booster dose for anyone who is aged 60 or older, who is pregnant, immunocompromised or has underlying health conditions, and health workers.
The recommended interval between doses is 12 months for most priority groups, but 6 months for those at highest risk including people who:
- are very old and frail
- have multiple significant comorbidities
- have severe immunocompromising conditions
- are in long-term care facilities.
